Our Teaching Style

Guided Discovery, which refers to engaging players in the learning process by defining the skill, expected outcome, and providing guidance on which cues to focus on without explicitly stating the cause-effect relationship.

Our History

When Coach Concepcion became the Head Coach at the University of Evansville back in 2012, he felt that in order to truly help grow the game in the tri-state area, there was a need for direct involvement in long-term athletic development. That was when, with the help of some of the most decorated sport families in the area, the idea of founding an academy was born. The reason was simple and clear since the beginning: to build a systematic foundation that would focus on youth training and development with motor learning principles standing as the backbone of it.

In the 2013-14 club season, Evansville United Volleyball Academy was born. Since then, we have been committed to provide similar development opportunities to every age group under the same philosophical & teaching umbrella, in order to increase learning. In this short period of time, this perspective has already resulted in:

  • Over a dozen players selected for USA Volleyball High Performance Camps at all levels: High Performance Championships with the A1 National Team and Continental Team, the A2 National Training Program, A3 National Training Program, and the Skills Camp.

  • College Commitments at all levels: This list includes schools like Georgia Tech University, Florida State University, and Florida Gulf Coast University, IUPUI, Lehigh University, and the University of Evansville.

  • Club membership presence at all levels of High School Championships: 4A, 3A, 2A, and 1A.

  • Our club members have been awarded with individual and team recognitions as a result of their tournament and season performances.

  • The club size has grown more than 1000% in the last four years.

Some of the factors that have contributed to these achievements are:

  • Our training and development methods. We are the ONLY club in the area that constantly has 3-4 coaches impacting every team.

  • Almost every practice is combined with other teams from similar age groups, in order to increase randomness and enhance game-like situations.

  • Our players are taught to see, apply, receive and respond to feedback, and repeat. We do more and say less, in order to enhance information transfer.

  • We empower players with decision-making skills by using the Guided-Discovery method in practice and games.

  • We use keys and systems with the utilization of principles, in order to promote creativity.

Our Mission

Our mission will continue to be to grow the game in the area, by helping increase the number of athletes that not only participate in our sport at the youth level, but also strengthening the bridge between those athletes and opportunities to play at the college level and beyond, where they could use their skills to build an academic and professional future.
